Aviator Sunglasses

Aviator sunglasses are not just a great fashion statement, but also provide important protection for the eyes of pilots who call them "their most important sensory asset." But they are not just for men, they are great for women as well as you can see by this interesting blog post:

Stylish Aviator Sunglasses for Women

But protecting your eyes with sunglasses is recognized as very important, as can be seen in this article:

Protecting Your Eyes With The Right Sunglasses

And people all around the world are keen on aviator sunglasses as can be seen by this article:

Aviator Sunglasses – Recent Styles For Everyone

But for pilots aviator sunglasses present a more important choice. Because of the fact that most pilots fly above the clouds out in bright, harsh sunlight facing unrelenting uv rays a great pair of sunglasses like the Randolph Aviators are a necessity, not a nicety. Whether you like or dislike Randolph Aviator Sunglasses, there is no doubt that they are preferred by military pilots worldwide.

I know a lot of pilots, and almost without exception they wear Randolph Engineering aviator sunglasses which provide the best protection for their eyes.

Do Aviator Sunglasses Really Make You Look Cool?

There is a lot of debate about the "coolness" of aviator sunglasses, and many articles and posts make that argument. For example, read how some answered that question on Yahoo Answers:

"Why do aviator sunglasses immediately make you look cool?"

Or, this article on pilot sunglasses:

Aviator Style Eyewear Makes You Look Like A Cool Pilot

For true believers, the only thing that works are Ray Ban Aviator Sunglasses:

But sunglasses for pilots serve a more serious function: protection against dangerous uv rays at the higher altitudes. This is why most pilots prefer Randolph Aviator Sunglasses to any others.

Are There Advantages To Polarized Sunglasses?

The following article posits the advantages of polarized sunglasses:

The Advantages of Ray Ban Polarized Sunglasses

Ray Ban originated aviator sunglasses way back in the 1930s and began selling them on the boardwalk along the Atlantic Ocean. The original design was not a tear drop, but rather a larger lens covering more of the eye socket from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Today, many people associate aviator sunglasses with the tear drop shape which was made popular by the famous WWII photograph of MacArthur returning to the Philippines. Below is a video of MacArthur landing:

Here is an interesting video on the memorial to the landing:

Aviator Sunglasses

With all of the sunshine we have had this summer sunglasses have become a necessity, and the best kind of sunglasses are aviator sunglasses. Here is an interesting article about mirrored aviator sunglasses and their relationship to fashion:

Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses - A Fashion Outlook

I am not such a big fan of mirrored sunglasses, but I am a fan of non-polarized aviator sunglasses like Randolph aviator sunglasses.

Some of the best are made by AO Eyewear, and here is a YouTube video review of them:

Check out this pilot with his aviator sunglasses:

The Best Aviator Sunglasses

Well, it is interesting to note that many who think they know the history of aviator sunglasses believe they know how it all started. Problem is, they don't. For example, here is an article that really does not know the history of aviator sunglasses:

The Best Aviator Sunglasses

The truth is they were invented by Ray Ban and originally sold on the Boardwalk. Only later did they become standard fare for pilots flying airplanes.

This video claims to tell you everything you wanted to know about aviator sunglasses:

Once again, the author believes aviator sunglasses were made for pilots originally, but the truth is they weren't. They became popular when actors and actresses began wearing them to protect their eyes from the glare of studio lights.

So, get your history right, folks!

Aviator Sunglasses

As a pilot it is always interesting to read articles about aviator sunglasses. Sometimes I think the mystique overtakes common sense. For example, check out this article:

Aviator Sunglasses - Why You Should Buy The Mirrored Style

In this article the author claims that mirrored sunglasses were developed for pilots; nothing could be further from the truth. The facts are that aviator sunglasses for military pilots, and civilian pilots and drivers of cars with heads up displays, should buy non-polarized aviator sunglasses like Randolph aviator sunglasses. They are not mirrored, not polarized and are very effective at blocking out the suns harmful ultraviolet rays.

I found this interesting video that tells why these are the best aviator sunglasses:

Randolph Aviator Sunglasses

In addition, I found this interesting article at Ezinearticles as well:

How Important Are Aviator Sunglasses For Pilots?

Aviator sunglasses are also important for drivers of automobiles that have heads up displays in them. Polarized sunglasses can render the readouts from the heads up display unreadable, and therefore useless.

Eyewear for Pilots and Drivers of Cars with Heads Up Displays

In an interesting article the author claims that proper eyewear for pilots has been a required item since man's first flight. I beg to differ - the first flight took place when googles were the preferred form of eyewear, and they really only kept the eyes from drying out and from bugs entering the eyes. Really, not much use at all; however, you can read the article here:

Eyewear for Pilots

I would argue that the proper aviator sunglasses are more important, and certainly not mirrored aviator sunglasses.

You can check out this informative video about Sunglasses for Pilots here:

Or, if you prefer, read this article about the Evolution of Aviator Sunglasses:

Evolution Of Aviator Sunglasses

The facts are that pilots need non-polarized aviator sunglasses like Randolph aviator sunglasses, NOT mirrored aviator sunglasses.
